The course is designed by the DSA to develop the skills and knowledge of newly qualified drivers and to broaden their driving experience through a six module training syllabus. The Pass Plus scheme is supported by the driver training industry and the motor insurance sector, with participating insurance companies offering lower insurance premiums on completion of the course (typically 30% reductions).

The six module course (minimum 6 hours) is a series of competences that have to be achieved but there is no test to be taken. The Pass Plus course covers a variety of different driving conditions and the six modules include: City Driving, All Weather Driving (some of which may be theory), Rural and Country Driving, Night Driving, Dual Carriageway and Motorway Driving.
